The different yarn weights and thicknesses. To be used only as a quick, handy guide – not as a limiting definition.
This is not a lengthy, definitive article. There is no fixed universal terms and suggested hooks/needles. I am just jotting down these info as I am fed up with not remembering and having to Google for this info each time.
This article is incomplete. I will add more when I can find more standardised crochet hook sizes.

The issue is that any given yarn manufacturer can call it any weight they want to regardless if it is actually thinner or thicker. Also people might not have the same exact tension as the designer. That is why I try to always do a gauge swatch So I can adjust. BTW I love your designs. You are so very creative.

Hello Leana, I completely agree. Years ago, I didn’t do gauge swatches and I didn’t use them either when I followed someone else’s design. Needless to say, I learnt the hard way that that was not a good idea!!! hahaha. Yup, I rely on them and encourage others to do so too. For the reasons you mentioned: different yarn weights/thickness; individual knitting/crochet tensions, etc.
I couldn’t even begin to do my own design without making a sample swatch of a reasonable size in the hook(s) and yarn(s) I plan to use.
Thank you Leana for dropping by and thank you every so much for your kind remarks!!
