Now what is a wire retainer? (Wire retainer is also sometimes described as “lead retainer” – not that that explains what it is!) Well, first of all — wire retainer is a darn cool feature!
But before I go into that, let me just say that I, like so many people, am a big fan of Xuron. If you look on Amazon reviews, you will find that almost invariably, Xuron products get a very high rating. Deservedly so. I have slowly accumulated some Xuron pliers and cutters. Not one has been disappointing.
Xuron pliers are made in USA.
Xuron Oval Head Micro-Shear Flush Cutter with Wire Retainer (Xuron 9100F)
I really needed (wanted?) a durable, quality flush cutter. And as I am such a fan of Xuron, I researched this model and it was all go-go-go!
According to the Manufacturer’s Description:
” … The 9100F Micro-Shear Flush Cutter with Lead Retainer – 9000 Series are the only shears made anywhere in the world rated for cutting everything from soft material less than one mil. to 14 AWG copper wire. 9000 Series Micro-Shear flush cutters begin with a unique, state of the art blanking process from tough alloyed steel. Their size and shape reflect the latest advances in enhanced ergonomics. The heat treating process is exclusive to the 9000 Series. Cutting edges are an ultra durable 58-60 RC. The result is a shear unlike any other in design, capacity and durability.” (bolded text is mine)
What is the Wire Retainer
The wire retainer on the cutter helps the plier hold onto the cut wire so that it does not spring away. It is very cool.
This video below (from Xuron) succinctly demonstrates the flush cutter wire retainer feature.
Would I recommend a Xuron tool? Without a doubt.
