Either Mineral Turp or WD-40 will work to dissolve the gummy stickiness from the plastic tape. But (if I remember correctly), WD-40 has a very strong smell. So I ended up using Mineral Turpentine, which does not have such a strong, lingering smell.
And these linens were finally used to dorn our kitchen via the help of Mr. Smith with his changeable towels for an easy clean.
