This nostalgic bridal necklace is for the modern bride who is looking for a bit of funky asymmetry and a white touch of vintage nostalgia. This necklace is in white and off-whites, with a central embroidered piece of swirls and flourishes. Features a beaded cord and a hidden side clasp.
This piece was originally created for a beading challenge on the now defunct internet group: “Australian Beading Forum”. The theme was: “Flourish”.
The central embroidery was recycled from a wedding invitation card! It looked so lovely that I knew, if I kept it, it could one day become a jewellery piece! The inherent flourishes in the embroidery is enhanced further with the introduction of bead embroidery. Special attention was paid to the flourishes and swirls.
Some Construction Notes
I wanted the necklace cord to match the piece and yet be different from the standard beaded cord.
The beaded necklace cord:
- a hand crochet cord with double sided beading for most of the length. I carried on with the hand crochet cord using only single-sided beads to make the loop (for the clasp)
- has a hidden side button clasp
- after completion of the beaded crochet cord, it is embellished further by fine, roughly cut pieces of soft organza and lawn. This created a fun and organic fluffy look. Each “fluff” is topped with a 4mm vintage acrylic clear bead with AB coating. The beads were manufactured in the early 1980s.
The side clasp consist of a (hidden) button and loop. The button is hidden on the underside so the entire piece looks like one continuous piece.
