Useful notes on Flat Beaded Square with Peyote Stitch
- Delica seed beads will give you the flatest squares.
- Using rocailles (rounded seed beads) produces a domed square.
- While I said that repeating R6-R9 will produce a larger square; ideally, as you work, you will not need to refer to the instructions. You should be able to visually figure out what has to happen to the corner (viz. how many beads, if any, to add to corners of each round) to keep your shape a square one. It is the at the corners that determines and creates the square.
It is the corner beads that determine the beaded square shape.

I got the basic instructions from the marvelous work of Kate McKinnon at Contemporary Geometric Beadwork. The full instructions (and more) are available from CGB Volume 1, Basics Section. Highly recommended and Kate McKinnon has very generously offered free pdf downloads.

hi, I’m here because I’m looking for a technique to make quite particular beaded squares. your tutorial gave me some ideas, but I think I’ll still need to think about how to start the center of the square.
how can I send you a picture of what I would like to achieve? maybe you could give me some advice!
regards
agnese
P.S. I’m in Italy and you’re the first blog to which I registered on the other side of the world!

WooHooHoo! Kate McKinnon has commented on my blog! (spinning around with glee). No Kate, it is I/we who have to thank you for sharing your talent and being so generous with your knowledge. I would love to send you piccies but right now I am just picking up tools (how to do different geometric shapes) with no clear idea what will be thrown together along the journey 😀 Thank you once again for sharing so much talent and in such clear ways. And thank you for your Contemporry Geometric Beadwork site (at https://beadmobile.wordpress.com/)
