This week, I thought I would devote some time to making things for the house so the Hearts Sun-catcher Windchime popped out.
z. Bead Mat Tray – changeable, non-slip DIY
Do you love your bead mat? Oh yes! Do you hate your bead mat slipping as you work? Oh yes yes yes!
Well, I had enough. I wanted to make a bead mat tray that would be:
- be non-slip
- capable of holding multiple bead mats
- thick enough that when I pin something to it, there is enough depth to hold it
- heavy enough that it won’t lift up when I move or take pins out
- and as a bonus – able to easily change bead mats for different coloured ones.
So here is my functional DIY bead mat tray. I have tested it daily for a couple of months now and am very happy with its functionality.
Pliers Stand Holder – Simple How To
I decided to make my own pliers stand (alternatively called “pliers holder” or “pliers rack”). It was easier than I expected. And sturdier.
I have been driven nosy and crazy with my various make-do pliers stands. First it was buckets, then whatever wooden canister holder, then just plonking them into a tools bucket. But as many know, the more you have need of your tools – the more specialized and plentiful they get. And in the middle of a project, to be able to lay your hands quickly on the right tool, is a heaven-sent. And then to be able to store them, visually accessible and safely – that is another god sent.
But pliers stands or pliers holders are not cheap. Plus, even after paying the price, they have limited capacity. (You know your collection will continue to grow despite your best restraint). So being able to make your own pliers stand – easily, is a big bonus.
zz.Organised Pin Cushion – Ever So Useful
Ah, don’t turn your eyes away because I seem like a lowly and ugly pin cushion. I am only a beta version. I have been on trial for a month or so. And I have made Helena so very happy!
I am a pin cushion which:
- is weighted
- is segmented to be easily organised
- has anti-rust capabilities
- can magnetically hold small work scissors
- and helps sharpen needles
I have been made to please. And I have and I do! Daily!
Helena thinks I am quite amazing (tho she does not, as yet, appreciate my lack of good looks).
z. Clay Play – Lilly By The Sea
Lilly By The Sea was my first clay play. It is comprised mainly of clay and felted Lilly Owl (of course).
First let’s start with some close-ups of the finished Lilly By The Sea. Then we will have a closer look at the journey in this first clay play project.
z. Lilly Owl – poked, felted, beaded
Lilly Owl is part of “Lilly By The Sea (clay play)“. Here we will go into detail about how to make this felted, mix media owl.
