Which stitch to use for Mochila Wayuu bags? Here is a listing and comparison of possible stitches.
Modified Single Crochet Stitch
This modified crochet stitch seems to be the most common stitch used in Tapestry Crochet and in Mochila Wayuu bags.
However this is not my favourite stitch for Wayuu bags because it is not as firm or as dense as the stitches below.
However this stitch produces the straightest vertical line (as illustrated by the beads). Hence the best for graphed work as in tapestry crochet.
See How To Modified Crochet Stitch for detailed steps.
Knit Single Crochet Stitch (ksc) or Waistcoat Stitch
One of my preferred stitches for Mochila Wayuu bags.
I have used this ksc stitch in the following examples. (Thumbnails link to the actual posts.)
The ksc stitch produces a dense and strong fabric. It also looks a lot like stockinette knitted stitch.
Can be used for graphing, despite usually having a slight slant to the left.
See How To Modified Knit Single Crochet stitch / Waistcoat Stitch.
Modified Shallow Single Crochet Stitch
My secondary main stitch for use in tapestry crochet. The resultant fabric is dense and strong. Each row is shorter than the modified sc stitch. Stitches do vertically slant to the left.
See steps in How To Modified Shallow sc stitch.
Shallow Double Crochet (American term)
This stitch can also be used for Mochila Wayuu bags.
This is also a modified sc stitch. But Americans say “dc (double crochet)” where we in Australia/England say “sc (single crochet)”.
