Time, I thought, to attempt adult MALE crochet booties. The man has to clean floors too!
I have been experimenting and making crochet booties lately – to keep warm as well as to simultaneously clean our polished wooden floors: Female Crochet Booties to keep warm and clean floors. Once I got a bit of a feel for what might work, it was time to move onto the male in the family. But I now had to make something fairly acceptable looking so that he would wear it. It must be comfortable too. And then, his footsies can keep warm while he helps with the housework of cleaning the floors!
Tips and Notes on How To Make Male Crochet Booties
The picture here shows the puffy inner and outer soles. Hence the soles are doubly thick and comfy.
Please refer to Crochet Booties – keep warm and clean floors for more details on how to make these double soles.
I will just carry on with the specifics in the making of this particular pair of adult male crochet booties.
Back Support
From my earlier experimentations, I found that the back of the heel could do with a firmer, better support. To that end, I crocheted a separate patch for the back support. Use extra strong and thick crochet stitches. I worked them to the height I wanted then ended that part.
I used a single strand of yarn in the making of the puffy soles (Astrakhan Crochet Stitch). However for the back support and body of the adult crochet booties, I used double yarns.
Sides of Crochet Booties
Next proceed to crocheting the sides of the adult male crochet booties. Begin from the back support. Each side flap has to be long enough to go along the sides of the soles and the height of the flap will go over the front of the soles.
Once you have the right lenghts for the side flaps, you crochet down the flaps – including the fronts. There will be a cross over at the front.
Approximate a comfy size for the opening. Then sew down the crossover section to prevent gaping.
Cuffs for Adult Male Crochet Booties (optional)
After you have sewn down the cross over section, the booties are about finished. You can end off with a nice edging around the top.
Here I have decided to add a “cuff” to it.
Note: if you have a look at the previous photo, you will notice a “V” shape right at the top of the foot area. Before I made the booties cuff, I rounded off this “V” opening by crochet 3 trebles into the same stitch (right at the bottom of the “V”). That then gave me a more circular shape from which to create the cuffs.
Work the cuffs, with the stitch of your choice, up to the height you desire. End and neaten off.
Completed Adult Male Crochet Booties
I (optionally) added a different coloured edging around the soles and cuffs. This was worked in a simple chain stitch, worked directly into the work.
